    What if there were a fundamental but simple shift that you could make that would inspire you, allow you to do more than you ever thought possible and drive you to long term success?  There is such a thing, but you might think that it sounds too basic to really make a difference.

    Have you ever heard anyone say:

    • “I’ll never be able to figure out all of that technology stuff, I’m just not wired that way.”
    • “That guy is just a natural when it comes to selling!”  
    • “My kids are really smart – I tell them that all the time.”

    These are all examples of a fixed mindset – a dangerous (and common) situation that ultimately leads to failure, frustration and generally not reaching your potential.

    The really fun thing about kids is that they have the confidence that they can do anything.  They want to believe in the fantastical – that Harry Potter spends his school years at Hogworts, that Percy Jackson has a pen that turns into a magical sword for monster killing.  That they can explore the world, find new horizons and create amazing new things!

    I think they’re right.

    I remember reading science fiction when I was a kid (I know – the nerdiness started early…) and imagining all of the fantastic technology that would be out there in a few short years – we still don’t have flying cars yet, but I think mobile phones, electric cars, flying suits, GPS systems and the Wii would all qualify as incredible innovations!

    The point is that we live in a time when people have the capabilities to create a business that can hit millions in revenue with little to no formal advertising (just some viral videos).  Yes these are dark days, but they are also great days to step up and make something happen.

    A few weeks ago, I wrote about our “Adventures In Car Shopping – how not to sell” and shared a somewhat painful story about our initial visit and test drive experience with 3 different car dealerships.

    As I mentioned previously, 2 of the dealerships / salesmen basically knocked themselves out of the running with a combination of poor sales techniques and some ethically challenged tactics.

    The good news is that we liked the other car (a Ford Edge – pictured above) and the salesman and the dealership correctly read that we are the kind of buyers that just wanted a straight discussion and limited ‘help’.
